This project brings together four exciting musicians – reed player Camila Nebbia, drummer Francesca Remigi, bassist Ferdinando Romano, and guitarist Giacomo Zanus – under the leadership of Alexander Hawkins. Introduced to many Italian listeners in the live context as a collaborator with the likes of Anthony Braxton, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Mulatu Astatke, and Roberto Ottaviano, Hawkins is widely recognised as one of the most distinctive composers of his generation, as well as being one of its most sought-after pianists. He can be heard live, and on record, with a vast range of creative musicians, including the likes of Nicole Mitchell, Tomeka Reid, Sofia Jernberg, Shabaka Hutchings, and Evan Parker, to name but a few. This new quintet will perform a programme of Hawkins’ idiosyncratic work for medium-sized ensemble, much of it never yet performed in public.
