“COHORS” is a project of the singer and composer Valentina Fin, commissioned by the Cultural Association 4’33” and created thanks to an artistic residency held for the Fondazione Palazzo Te in Mantua The sextet carries out research and arrangement of Renaissance and Baroque pieces thanks to the practice of improvisation in a virtuoso confrontation between jazz, which makes it one of its founding values, and the musical tradition of the European courts of the Renaissance. The interweaving of genres, seemingly so different, but in fact united by the improvisational component, is enhanced by a multidisciplinary approach that includes, in addition to an ensemble of musicians musically from both traditions, the dancer and choreographer Camilla Monga. Starting with 7 pieces of music, from some of the most active European courts in the Renaissance, real centers of musical production of the time such as London, Mantua, Aragonese Naples and Flanders, the musicians and dancer work not only on the reworking of the material of these great court composers respectively Monteverdi, Purcell, Gesualdo and Sances, but create a real musical journey alternating written parts with improvised parts with moments of conduction. Thanks to the DV Young call for proposals, which the project was awarded, in June 2023 the sextet recorded for Da Vinci Publishing its debut album to be released in spring 2024.
